Antique Dresser in Mustard Seed Yellow Milk Paint

Ushering in Fall with Miss Mustard Seed’s “Mustard Seed Yellow” Milk Paint

Mustard Seed Yellow is a color that I don’t use often enough. It has a buttery sunny goodness that fills me up with joy every time I mix it up. Since Fall is my absolute favorite time of year, I thought I’d usher in Autumnal feels with my latest piece from the workshop using Mustard Seed Yellow Milk Paint by Miss Mustard Seed.

Mustard Seed Yellow

Mustard Seed Yellow is currently the only yellow in the Miss Mustard Seed’s Milk Paint collection.

This buttery shade hits all the right notes. It’s not too neon or fluorescent, and it doesn’t lean too gold. It looks lovely when topped with any of the finishes in the MMS Milk Paint line, but my favorite is Hemp Oil.

Hemp Oil brings out the richness and depth of each MMS Milk Paint color. The golden goodness of Mustard Seed Yellow gets brought to life just perfectly when I use this oil finish.

Not only did I apply it over the Milk Paint, but I also used it on the original handles too!

Staging With My Favorite Things

Staging my furniture for photos is a skill that I am constantly working to improve. I’m part of a refinished furniture tour on Instagram that is providing me with lots of inspiration and good ideas to tuck away. When I stage a piece, I like to use props that are as period-appropriate as possible. Most of my props are from Morgantown Market.

Such was the case with the items I picked for this piece.

These old brushes were begging to be displayed in a collage. It took me a few tries to get their arrangement just right. And since I wanted a Fall feel to my photo, I thought the amber bottles, willow branches and straw hat would give off the right vibes.

To balance the left side of the photo, I tucked in an antique caned rocking chair that has the sweetest patina!

Hello there! [Insert virtual hug]

I’m Jenn Baker of Jennifer Baker Creative.

I started my entrepreneurial journey as a furniture refinisher and paint retailer after falling in love with Miss Mustard Seed and her incredible Milk Paint. This love has blossomed into a multi-faceted creative business.

Currently, I blog for Miss Mustard Seed’s® Milk Paint and appear on QVC as a guest host for their private garden brand, “Marigold”. When I’m not on national television or elbow-deep in MilkPaint™ projects, you’ll find me enjoying period dramas like Downton Abbey or savoring my third cup of coffee for the day.

I am married to a hockey-playing statistician named Marc and we have 2 cats - Nelson and Jake. Marc and I got married during an epic blizzard in 2016 when over 3 feet of snow fell overnight. Needless to say, our wedding photos are amazing!
