Learn all about Grandmillenial Style with Vintage 61 Storehouse

In the design world, there are all sorts of buzz words to describe home decor trends. From “Modern Farmhouse” to “Mid-Century Modern”, there’s an aesthetic for everyone!

MMSMP Retailer, Laura Hughes, and her team at Vintage 61 Storehouse, went live on our Facebook page to introduce you to another buzz-worthy design trend - Grandmillenial.

If you’ve never heard of it before, sit back and be inspired by this eye-catching blend of old and new.

What Does “Grandmillenial” Mean?

Grandmillenial Style is a colorfully eclectic blend of heirloom treasures from your grandparents that has become popular amongst 20 and 30 year olds (aka millenials).

You can also think of this style as “Granny Chic”. (We know…it made us chuckle too!)

Elements of Grandmillenial Style

How can you recognize Grandmillenial Style when you see it? Here are a few playful characteristics to look for.

Maximism as Opposed to Minimalism

While some millenials subscribe to a more modern and minimalistic feel in their living spaces, there is a different group going the complete opposite direction. Grandmillenials are embracing a maximistic way of living. Rather than having lots of empty space, they’re tastefully displaying as many treasured hand-me-down pieces as they can.

A Grandmillenial room will have a feeling like it evolved over time. Each space will seem as if it was carefully added to little by little over the years.

No Fear of Color

As a Grandmillenial collection grows, you’ll notice a wide variety of colors emerging. This style is not afraid of pops of color. Notice how the juicy tones of this antique dresser (a 50/50 mix of Mustard Seed Yellow and Tangerine [formally Outback Petticoat]) work well with the handmade quilt off to the side.

Vintage 61 Storehouse’s resident interior designer, Miss Kathy, says to “let all the colors exist”. Hang up embroidery wall art right next to old paintings. Layer hand-me-down china sets on top of lace dresser scarves. Allow all of the colors to be in the same place at the same time.
