Meet Shelly, The Prairie Chick

Furniture Feature Friday

Every Friday, we feature a beautiful Miss Mustard Seed’s® Milk Paint project in our Move Mountains With Milk Paint Facebook Group - a thriving and bustling online community where creative minds come together to inspire, help and encourage one another.

This week, we’re combining Furniture Feature Friday with a Retailer Spotlight. It’s our pleasure to introduce you to MMS Milk Paint Retailer, Shelly Greimann, of The Prairie Chick in Blue Earth, Minnesota!

The Prairie Chick

Shelly’s shop, The Prairie Chick, is a home and garden store that sells new and vintage furniture, antiques and accessories. It’s located right on the main street in Blue Earth, Minnesota.

Shelly and her husband bought the building a few years ago and rehabbed it with the help of her family.

Together, they made it quite a versatile space with a storefront on the main floor and a boho-chic style Air BNB on the top! On the corner is an empty lot where her daughter and son-in-law sell live plants and trees through their small business, Legacy Trees.

It’s such a nice compliment to the unique and trendy home decor inside the shop. Folks can make their home beautiful inside AND outside in one stop!

In addition to selling Miss Mustard Seed’s Milk Paint, home decor, and antique/vintage finds, Shelly offers interior design services. During our interview, she shared how she helps customers rework their home spaces and decorate according to their design taste. She offers suggestions and helps them find just the right piece - sometimes shopping for the pieces herself!

All in the Family

Shelly and her family are quite the talented bunch! Prior to being a shop owner, Shelly worked for her local Chamber of Commerce. She has a marketing degree, which was a great fit for her role as Director. Her husband publishes a national magazine called “Performance Horse Digest” and is quite the horse expert!
They live on a farm that has been in the family for generations, complete with a farmhouse, schoolhouse and plenty of room for horses.

Shelly’s son-in-law and daughter call the schoolhouse home along with their 8 sweet children. Their roots definitely run deep!

From Blogging to Retailing

Like many of us, Shelly started her MMS Milk Paint journey with Miss Mustard Seed’s blog. She was an avid follower and even started a blog of her own! Here she is meeting blogging superstar, Liz Marie Galvan, and her husband, Jose, at Magnolia’s Silobration!

Shelly tried all sorts of paints on the market, and she landed on MMS Milk Paint for several reasons. First, she loves its versatility. Milk Paint can be full coverage, crackled, chippy or mixed as a stain. It’s sort of the Swiss Army Knife of paint! In addition, Shelly loves the color palette. (We hear this quite often amongst MMSMP lovers!) All of the shades in the line fit beautifully with the vintage and antique furniture she refinishes and sells in her lovely shop.

An Arabesque Washstand

Now that you know a little bit more about Shelly, let’s turn our attention to this week’s Furniture Feature Friday selection - her sweet Arabesque washstand!

Shelly has a soft spot in her heart for any piece of furniture with spoon carvings, and we totally understand! This little piece has 3 clusters of them on the drawer fronts.

To ensure a full coverage finish, Shelly added a little Bonding Agent into her mix of Arabesque. She finished it with our buttery soft Furniture Wax.

Arabesque is a great neutral that looks wonderful with natural elements and textures. It’s a beautiful, sophisticated color. The response has been so positive on this piece that Shelly will definitely use it on more projects in the future!
