We’ve done some minor tweaking to this beloved finish and are pleased to introduce you all to our new MilkOil™!
What Is Hemp Seed Oil, Exactly?
Let’s take a quick minute to explain what our MilkOil™ is exactly. First, our MilkOil™ is made from the seeds of a hemp plant. They are cold pressed, releasing hemp seed oil. (It’s kind of like squeezing olives to get olive oil.) This oil is then refined, resulting in the golden goodness you love so much!
Okay, so now that we’re all on the same page, let’s move on to all of the crazy awesome features of our MilkOil™ Indoor Hemp Seed Oil Finish!
MilkOil™ Is Highly Refined In The USA
The changes all start with the quality of our MilkOil™. In keeping with our love for small businesses, we are now sustainably sourcing our hemp seed oil from a co-op of family-owned farms in the USA. These fabulous farmers refine our MilkOil™ down to a single micron.
That’s one-millionth of a meter!
This extensive refining process results in an oil of the highest quality, evidenced by the clear golden color. This golden goodness is the hallmark of a top quality product!
This extensive refining process also eliminates the color range you used to see with our old formula. Now, there will no longer be a “greenish” Hemp Seed Oil.
MilkOil™ Is 100% Natural And Food-Contact Safe
The incredible goodness of our MilkOil™ continues, as it’s 100% natural. There are no solvents, chemicals, additives or preservatives in your jug. (We’ll talk about those in a second.) It’s just all MilkOil™ goodness in there!
Our MilkOil™ has no VOC’s - just a lovely subtle earthy odor, much like the oils in your kitchen cupboard. It’s food-contact safe as well, so feel free to apply it to wooden rolling pins, spoons, bread boards, cutting boards, charcuterie boards, bowls, children’s toys, etc.
MilkOil™ Comes In Jugs
To preserve your MilkOil™ color and freshness, we have an adorable new container!
It’s opaque (not see-through) so light can’t penetrate the oil. This ensures that your MilkOil™ will stay uncontaminated, fresh and gorgeously gold.
We have wrapped every product package in a wipeable label, so if you dribble some MilkOil™ on your jug, it’s okay! Just rub it away and keep going.
As far as sizes go, we have 8 fl oz. and 16 fl oz. jugs for your MilkPaint™ projects.
What Can You Use MilkOil™ For?
First and foremost, you can use our new MilkOil™ over our reformulated MilkPaint™.

You can use it to wet sand your MilkPaint™ finish, if you wish. Our new formula dries so smooth that you don’t really need to finish sand, unless you want to.
Have a dried out wood project? MilkOil™ is the perfect product for hydrating surfaces like that! For example, take this old wooden tote from MMSMP Team Member, Jenn Baker. She uses it to store her paint brushes.
One brush stroke of MilkOil™ started working wonders! She didn’t have to wipe the excess away because there wasn’t any - the wood was that dry!
MilkOil™ can be used on leather too! You can see how it instantly rehydrated the strap of Jenn’s tote.
Jenn had a few more items in her stash that needed some TLC, so she kept on going with the MilkOil™ treatment.
Her antique books were pretty dry, so she carefully applied MilkOil™ to the covers. The wood and metal casters were also prime candidates. Speaking of metal, the bridge and arms of the antique spectacles could be shined up with MilkOil™.
Even this Big Ben clock got a treatment!
Because MilkOil™ is food-contact safe, it can be used on wooden spoons, like Jenn’s, wooden bowls, bread boards, cutting boards and children’s toys.
It can also go over other porous paints (like chalk), cast iron, floors, trim, etc.

Tips For Using MilkOil™
To wrap things up, we have a few new tips for using our MilkOil™.
Pour out a small amount of MilkOil™ into a different cup and work from that. If you need more, pour out a small batch every time. Don’t pour leftovers back into the jug because you’ll contaminate it.
Store MilkOil™ away from direct sunlight.
Keep MilkOil™ cool and protect it from heat.
Be gentle with projects finished in MilkOil™ for 30 days. A residue may be left on items that are in direct contact with the surface, so it’s best to keep the project bare until it has cured.
If your project appears blotchy after applying MilkOil™, wipe away the excess. Let it dry for an hour or so. Then, apply another coat. Wipe back. Continue until there is an even appearance.
MilkOil™ Indoor Hemp Seed Oil is not recommended for high moisture areas like bathrooms and kitchens (countertops). We recommend our MilkWax-ECO™ for those interior projects.
MilkOil™ Indoor Hemp Seed Oil can be used outdoors, but we highly encourage the use of MilkOil™ Outdoor Tung Oil Blend instead.
Once you get going with MilkOil™, pace yourself. It’s definitely addicting, so don’t be surprised if you walk around your house with a jug, hunting for things to treat!
